Classicism in The Titanic Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Classicism in The Titanic - Movie Review Example On its first voyage however, it crushed into the ice of the Atlantic Ocean, causing it to sink. The film however evolved around the story of Jack (DiCaprio), a commoner and Rose (Winslet) a woman engaged to be married to a wealthy and powerful Duke. The film was heavy on the meeting and the love story that transpired between Jack and Rose but it also showed the class struggle between the rich and the poor and how power can be one-sided. The film ended with only one of the two surviving, thus ending a beautiful love story. The Titanic however, will forever be remembered. Classicism is an "aesthetic attitudes and principles based on culture, art and literature of ancient Greece and Rome, and characterized by emphasis on form, simplicity, proportion, and restrained emotion" (Baigent, 2003). Classicism can be seen as specific philosophical genre expressed in literature, architecture, art and music which has ancient Greek and Roman sources (Wikimedia Foundations, Inc, 2009). "Classical art encompasses antiquity and later works inspired by it, the latter normally referred to as Neoclassical. Adherence to traditional aesthetic formalities was favored over expressionism and individuality. Classic art is distinguished by clarity, order, balance, unity, symmetry and dignity" (World Wide Arts Resources, 2009). Classicism is made up of many concepts: proportion, symmetry, humanism, realism, idealism and Aristotle's theory of the "unities," among others. In this paper, we take a particular look at the concepts of symmetry, humanism and realism in our analysis of the movie Titanic. A Proportion in the Depiction of Characters "Proportion is the relationship of one part of a whole to other parts. In art it has usually meant a preoccupation of artists with finding a mathematical formula for the perfect human body" (Mimi.hu). My own understanding of proportion is the attempt to create a balance in an art so that it is necessary that the correct weight of each part is employed. In the whole of the film, The Titanic, proportion was observed when two classes were featured- the elite and the poor. There was a considerable portion allotted to describe these two classes where the leading characters came from. There was a description of the life of the commoner Jack as he was featured gambling just before the ship left so as to have something for fare. On the other hand, the elite were given especial seats in the ship plus especial treatment during the rescue. There was a proper proportion between the two male characters. Most of Jack was shown un the movie as he was the leading man, but the character of the Duke was also revealed such as heartless, dangerous but seemingly refined. The latter is in contrast with Jack's carelessness and roughness. The Reality of Class Struggle and sinfulness Realism as expressed in visual arts and literature is a depiction of subjects as they live and appear in their ordinary lives, "without embellishment or interpretation", thus in revealing the reality, may actually be ugly or sordid (Wikimedia Foundations, Inc, 2009). "The achievement of realism in theatre was to direct attention to the physical and philosophic problems of ordinary existence, both socially and psychologically. In plays of this mode people emerge as victims of forces larger than themselves, as individuals

Problem of Stereotype Essay Example for Free

Problem of Stereotype Essay Stereotypes may lead ineffective communication when we communicate with strangers. Our stereotypes tend to be activated automatically when we categorize strangers and when we are not communicating mindfully (see von Hippel, Sekaquaptewa, Vargas, 1995). We, therefore, unconsciously try to confirm our expectations when we communicate with strangers. Our stereotypes constrain strangers’ patterns of communication and engender stereotype-confirming communication. In other words, stereotypes create self-fulfilling prophecies. We tend to see behavior that confirms our expectations even when it is absent. We ignore disconfirming evidence when communicating on automatic pilot. When we communicate on automatic pilot, we do not cognitively process all the information about others that is available to us (Johnston Macrae, 1994). Generally, the greater our cultural and linguistic knowledge, and the more our beliefs overlap with those of the strangers with whom we communicate, the less the likelihood there will be misunderstandings. To increase our accuracy in making prediction, we must try to understand which social identity is guiding strangers’ behavior in a particular situation. And to be effective in communication with strangers, we must keep our minds open and be mindful. Since stereotypes are a natural product of the communication process, they influence the way we process information. Stereotyping is the result of our tendency to overestimate the degree of association between group membership and psychological attributes. While there may be some association between group membership and psychological characteristics of members, it is much smaller than we assume when we communicate on automatic pilot. When we communicate on automatic pilot, we interpret incoming messages on the basis of the symbolic systems we learned as children. Besides, our processing of information is biased in the direction of maintaining the preexisting belief systems. We remember more favorable information about our ingroups and more unfavorable information about outgroups (Hewstone Giles, 1986). So we tend to process information that is consistent with our stereotypes and our stereotypes

TASK-1.4 In your view point explain the cost and benefits of the marketing approach of the selected organization If we see upon this topic this is an interesting exiting topic.Cost benefit of an organization plays a major role in an organization. Cost means how much amount that is paid to purchase a product benefit means how much advantage we too ked from that product. For this procedure organization is using lots of method to increase their benefits. When we are considering about LGs cost benefits procedure they are using different kind of cost techniques at the same time they are also getting the benefits too. If we buy a LCD TV in LG in the big size like 32 inches more we can have a small home theatre system for free. If we buy any high rated product from LG the employees who are working will give a good service to the buyer like taking their product keeping in their vehicle. There are providing best facilities for their customers. Facilities like Air conditioning the full place it means keeping the entire place cool allowing the customers to park their vehicles They are using some new technologies communication method like hoarding, posters, banners other methods to grab the attention of the customers. If we see upon the market share of LG it is having about 65% in the world Strong brand name If we see upon the LG it is a reputed international firm which has a diversified product line in the electronics field, so LG has a strong financial position which is big strength for the firm. Conclusion- In my point of view I would say that LG is charging only few of money, but they are giving lots of benefits to customers. They are getting more awards for their creativeness, satisfying the customers in a best way, keeping a good market share in the world having a strong brand name in the world. TASK-2.1 The macro and micro environmental factor influences of the selected organization marketing activities. Macro Environment Macro environment means the external factors which will affect a companys planning and their performance which are beyond their control. Micro Environment Micro environment is an environment which covers a small area of a particular organization. This studies about the individuals, household and firms that make decisions to all to allocate the limited resources, where goods services are being bought sold. In the micro environment there will be customers, competitors, suppliers the public (marketing Mimi.hu) Macro Micro environment in LG This is the environment which effect the organization externally. By analyzing this environment you can get the opportunity avoid the threads. Macro environment Political factor Economic factor Socio-cultural factor Technological factor Political Factor If we see upon the political factor there is being a major issue in Pakistan. There political conditions have made industry very unstable. Because of that issue all the other LG firms around the world are getting affected. Economic Factor If we see upon the economic factor Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an important thing to any organization. If the GDP is high then the disposal income will be high at the same time spending power will also increase. So, we have to mainly consider on the inflation method because if the inflation increases products prices will increase this will affect the customers buying pattern, but if the inflation decreases products prices will go down this will help the customers to buy more products at the same time. So we should carefully handle these problems. Socio-Cultural Factor LG is a company which originated from Korea according to that other countries adapted Koreas culture. There are social forms of society which contain of Upper class, middle class lower class. Every country has cultural standards, values, beliefs and religion which can affect the organization. Technological Factor Nowadays we can see that technology is improving a lot. Due to the new technologies internet, communication system other methods are introduced. Because of these technologies people are getting more benefits like sending the messages very quickly by internet, speaking to their relatives other well-known people who are in abroad. Because of the improvement of new technologies LGs products became cheaper their quality of product has been increased. Micro environment of LG Employees The number of employees of LG electronics stood at approximately 82,000 at the end of 2007. Many of the people are working overseas in the LGs firm. The people who are working in overseas should try to increase the localization strategy. In the world 16% of female employees are working as total domestic workforce. The average of the total male female workforce is 33.8 years; totally 0.8% of the disabled people are working in the total workforce. (Market share of LG) Suppliers In the LG firm all the management people are well skilled they are keeping a good relationship with the other members. LG is a qualified organization so they always go to the qualified suppliers. In this all the suppliers are from different countries like China, Italy, France, Japan USA, So supplier is a main part in an organization. LG is getting the supply products from Abans. Customers LG is a worldwide organization, so according to the brand name many customers will come to buy the product to satisfy their needs wants. LGs products are most probably suites for the people who are interested in the product. Competitors In every field we can see there is a big competition among the organizations. If we see upon the competitors in LG there are many of them. We can say Samsung, Sony, Singer, Whirlpool many companies for the competitors. Management Managers are the people who are responsible for the managerial work. So, Managers role is very important to any organization. If we see upon the LG management it is very good in solving its risks. LGs managers are very helpful to the customers, because if there any problem occurs managers will try to understand the customers problem theyll try to solve it. Conclusion- In my point of view I would say that LGs macro micro factors are really helpful to the employees who are working their to the customers who are coming to buy the product. TASK-2.2 Identify and explain the segmentation criteria used in the domestic marketing approach (both B2C and B2B) Segmentation Segmentation means a company which operates in a broader market to target a group of customers with their specific characteristics. In segmentation we cannot satisfy all the customers needs at the same time, because all the customers buying pattern will be varied in according to their requirements. There are four types of segmentation criterias Those are: Geographical Segmentation Demographical Segmentation Psycho graphical Segmentation Behavioral Segmentation Market segmentation of LG is very simple easy to understand. Geographic: If we see upon the LG firm in the region wise they have it in different countries. They are following this method to capture the market all around the world. If we see upon the LG firm in the city wise they have the companies 80 km distance another company to keep up the team sprit among the members. Demographic: Second base is the demographic segmentation method where it will mainly consider about the income level. If the organization is targeting a higher class company LGs segment will be consumers with high income levels. Psychographic: Third base is the psychographic segmentation method where it will considers about the classes like upper class, middle class the lower class. Psychographics includes some variables those are: Activities- If we look upon the activities which are LG is currently doing we can say many things like LG doing after sales service to the customers other activities. Interests-If we see upon the interests that an LG person has, to create new things like creating a new technology item into the market. Behavioral: Behavioral is another method in which where the firm will mainly consider about buyers behavior. In this method the organization will give lots of benefits to the customers like giving the products in a good quality one. Conclusion-In my point of view I would say that segmentation means a company which will have a broader market targets a group of customers who will have the specific characteristics. These four criterias are helping the organization to be in a good position. TASK-2.3 Outline the factors which influence the choice of targeting strategy for the selected organization. Targeting LG has targeted the market on the basis of the product that they are offering to the customer they are also targeting the consumers who are more concerned on their safety health issues. They are Targeting: Upper class segment-Targeting the upper class people who will buy more of the product. Upper end-Targeting the middle class people who will buy a some of product. They are also targeting those consumers who are taking more concern about their life style product. Because LG is a world class company all the consumers are thinking that they need quality products. LG Company is having the LCD plasma television the TV DIOS refrigerator for the premier segment. LG is now going to shift from middle class segment they are moving their product to the mass market. Basis of selecting the Target Market Basis of selecting valuable customers, that means selecting the best customers who are buying their products at LG without looking their costs. LG organization is targeting people like this to earn the profit at the same time to give a good service to the customers. Ancient China and Egypt By: Jessica Isham Ancient Egypt and Ancient China were 2 of the biggest civilizations thousands of years ago. Both left its impact on history, they had many similar beliefs, and different ways of life. They had different rulers, religions, languages and forms of money. Both civilizations have different rulers. China is ruled by emperors and empires, and Egypt their people by pharos. In Egypt their people didn’t live as long so they had a lot more pharos. China’s on the other hand, lived a lot longer. So, therefore Chinese emperors and empires were around longer. The religion of ancient Egypt was polytheistic and centered on the divinity of the ruler and the eternity of the soul. The Chinese were polytheistic with the addition of ancestor worship. Over time, these beliefs were sometimes blended with Taoism, Buddhism or Confucianism. They both also had different beliefs. Egypt believed when people passes, if they were preserved than they might have an afterlife. The Egyptians would put the dead mummified people in solid gold coffins and filled the burial room with bizarre treasures. China believed in the burial method as well. They would bury the Chinese people in the ground and pour water on them, then put them in a hanging coffin. The Chinese also believed in cremation, were they burn the body into ashes. The ancient Egyptians believed that most non-physical ailments were caused by spells and curses. Overall treatments included amulets, potions and surgery depending on what was wrong. Chinese medicine was based on the idea of the balance of the energies yin and yang. Illness was the result of an imbalance and was treated with herbs, acupuncture and exercises. The Chinese were mainly ahead of the rest of their time period. They used cowrie shells and metal beans for money. They also had paper money and coins. The Egyptians traded goods and services. The two civilizations created their own languages. Egypt had hieroglyphs that w ere dated from 3400 BC. Hieroglyphs are a formal writing system that contained a combination of logographic and a alphabetic elements. Process Analysis Essays - Canadian Cuisine, English Cuisine

Process Analysis Essays - Canadian Cuisine, English Cuisine Process Analysis Process Analysis For a good reason, I find it crazy that people can so trivially disregard making a box of mac and cheese as an art. Granted, it might not be as painstaking as painting the Sistine Chapel, (thanks for that, Michelangelo) but the act of preparation of mac and cheese is still elegant and precise. From choosing the box, to adding the cheese, it is not as simple as you believe it to be. Making mac and cheese is an art and must be learned. It takes years to master the making of mac and cheese As a result, it takes focus, determination, character, and even a little bit of soul. Each batch you make has a part of you inside of it, and a good batch will have the totality of your heart and soul poured in right alongside the milk. So at this point, any sane person is going to ask me, Matt, how in the world do you do it, then? Luckily, following this is a step-by-step guide that even an idiot can follow, so hang tight and pay close attention. First, youre going to need to buy a box of macaroni and cheese Even though this seems redundant, there are some special tips to keep in mind. For one, Dollar General sells cheap boxes of mac and cheese. A Kraft box costs a dollar, and a Dollar General brand costs 60 cents. Doesnt the choice seem obvious? Dollar General brand, right? Youre wrong! Never disgrace your pot with their lackluster noodles and the powdery slop that Dollar General, or any other competitor, calls cheese. The only proper way to make mac and cheese is with a Kraft box, and if you think otherwise, stop reading here, and stay away from my kitchen, you vermin. So, youve bought your box and youre standing cluelessly in your kitchen, dumbfounded by the variety of cooking utensils. Consequently, it is time for the second step. Dig deep in your cupboards to procure a medium-sized pot and a strainer. Grab a large spoon as well, but you can substitute for a plastic spoon as well. Wooden spoons are the best because they do not conduct heat. Choose with care. In case you do not happen to have a wooden spoon or plastic spoon handy, a regular metal table spoon will be able to complete the task. Just be cautious when using it as it may heat up during the process. Make it a point to use a pot you are familiar with to bolster your success. If you are one who blindly follows instructions printed on the box, it is time for a glorious reform. That is silly mindlessness, and it will result in mediocrity on a good day. Additionally, YOU will be forced to shovel your own failure down your throat as you soak your fork in your worthless tears. How sad. The bes t thing you can do is follow the nationally-certified Matt Formula which goes as follows. Fill your pan up about halfway to three quarters with water. This is not the most important step, so dont treat it as such. Next, you should turn the burner on high, and bring the water to a nice boil. In spite of your temptation to pour the noodles right in, resist. It is futile and will only result in complications later. You will know the water is boiling when bubbles are rapidly rising to the top, and this, my friend, is when the fun begins, but the artform must start. The next few steps must be performed precisely or else your macaroni and cheese will end up in the trash just like all of your dreams. But if you complete this correctly, you mac and cheese will be held high and praised, much like you will be. If you do not wait for the water to reach its peak boiling point, you day will be anything but fun. Before you pour the noodles in, grab the packet of cheese out of the box. Now that the noodles are in the pot, you may turn the heat down from high to halfway between high and medium. The box will tell you that eight minutes is the

Evaluating the American Job Market essays

Evaluating the American Job Market essays Economics has been an integral component of human enterprise ever since goldsmiths began utilizing their clients bullion to support unrelated endeavors. The goldsmiths simple process provided the model for present-day corporations to invest their net-worth in labor expansion and new technology. This process has led to a prevalent economic policy concerning the elimination and creation of jobs. Outsourcing, which specifically deals with the loss of jobs to foreign markets, is seen by many people as destructive to a nations economy, but it can ultimately increase the number of jobs available in the United States. Insourcing, a relocation of jobs into the United States by non-U.S. companies, is usually extremely beneficial to an economy with a high rate of unemployment. Economic policymakers in the United States continually deliberate on the optimum way to increase jobs and to decrease the dependence corporations have on outsourcing needed support functions to other places in the world. Interpreting the present-day economic market has become extremely complex; however, the complexities can be resolved by a comprehensive understanding of outsourcing, insourcing, and the policies that guide the American economy. Jobs that are outsourced to other countries can potentially increase the number of employment opportunities in America. Corporations look overseas for low-wage workers, which will decrease labor expenses. In addition, these companies search for the best possible environment for productivity (Taiwan 1). Cheaper labor costs theoretically allow[s] companies to invest more capital in new equipment and technology(Outsourcing 1). The new investments usually led to a creation of jobs in America. In order to create jobs, the U.S. [must] remain open to the worldwide economy (Parameswaran 2). Equally important, blue-collar job losses are opportunities for Americans to receive a higher ...

The Missionary Journeys of Paul the Apostle Term Paper

The Missionary Journeys of Paul the Apostle - Term Paper Example His conversion contributed considerably to the renaissance of Christ. Throughout his missionary journeys, he transformed religious beliefs and philosophy and founded churches all around the Mediterranean world. According to the Biblical background, it is viewed that there were three missionary journeys of Paul, approximately during 48-60 AD. Many Christian scholars believe that Paul walked on foot during his journeys through the city of Israel, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Greece and Italy. Paul’s missionary journeys cover northwest and the west of Jerusalem and the Mediterranean world of the Roman Empire1. The discussion henceforth reflects the strategies and methods used by Paul in his missionary journeys. Therefore, the discussion focuses on Paul’s three missionary journeys. Furthermore, the discussion also intends to present a brief understanding of the historical, religious and social contexts of his three journeys. Paul’s Missionary Methods and Strategies Paul pr acticed various strategies to spread the Christian faith to places he visited during his missionary journeys. According to Langston, Paul implemented a plan to evangelize the Roman world of Mediterranean, confirming three most significant centers for Judaism as Palestine, Alexandria and Babylon2. Therefore, it can be observed that moving towards the western region, Paul the Apostle strategically evangelized the then less populated areas. Furthermore, for the effective completion of the establishment of early churches, Paul relied on a few number of devotees, on whom he could bestow his complete faith to accomplish the job of evangelism. This group of devotees involved Luke, Timothy, Epaphroditus, Titus and Silas3. Paul the Apostle further established churches under the supervision of ‘older and abler men’, who could conserve the spiritual belief in Christ along with expanding it. Paul’s primary objectives were to create ‘indigenous’ churches with com plete spiritual authority under his own ministry. Paul’s work always highlighted the spiritual bond of union in Jesus Christ. Being the ‘spiritual father’, Paul took the responsibility to supervise these churches, making periodic personal visits. The morality of Apostle Paul can be learnt from the various episodes of his missionary journeys. For instance, to accumulate the necessary finance required for his missionary journey, Paul employed himself during the day as a ‘tentmaker’, avoiding any assistance from his followers and devotees. In every city which Paul visited, he recognized a Jewish ‘synagogue’, which is the prayer house used for the Jews, to develop it as an early church. He also sought out particular Jews whom he identified as ‘God-fearing Gentiles’ who did not want to submit to the Jewish ritualistic requirements and bestowed on them the responsibility of following the rules of the church and spreading the teach ings of Christ which He preached during His ministry all around the region4. Paul’s Missionary Journeys First Journey (48-49 AD) From March of 48 AD to September of 49 AD, Paul initiated his journey along the route of Antioch in Pisidia, Paphos and Salamis in Cyprus, Antioch in Syria, Perga in Asia Minor, Iconium, Lystra, Derbe, and back to Lystra. His first missionary journey began in Antioch of Syria, where he had to spend a considerable time for the

Letter of Intent - Pharmacy Residency Program Essay

Letter of Intent - Pharmacy Residency Program - Essay Example During my rotations at CSMC, I was encouraged to develop a critical mind as a clinical practitioner through a host of rotation opportunities and exposure to various teaching experiences, general hospital practice, and other challenging environments that challenged my skills as a clinical pharmacist. As a pharmacy resident, I was given the rare opportunity to work hand in hand with physicians and pharmacists in the development of clinical therapies directed at minimizing adverse drug effects on patients. This included my actual participation in more than 60 interventions that fueled my passion for pharmaceutical care for patients. This I believe, was a rare opportunity offered to me by CSMC as a resident that will benefit any healthcare provider that I work with during my PGY1 residency because of the fact that my accurate, split-second decision making skills have already been effectively honed during my pharmacy residency. Completing my PGY1 residency at CSMC will open doors for me in the future. As a clinical pharmacist, I hope to work in the area of infectious disease with a concentration on critical patient care and transplant pharmacy. If need be, I am willing to undergo an additional year of specialized training in order to become a world class clinical pharmacist. I firmly believe that I have the intellect, skills and passion necessary to succeed in your residency program. My time management skills, work ethics, and dedication to pharmaceutical care will help to further establish CSMC as one of the leading teaching hospitals in terms of exceptional clinicians and leaders in our respective
